A simple rule to drink more water

I love ICE cold water! Love it! Nothing tastes better…except maybe Prosecco with friends. However if it isn’t ice cold I don’t really think to drink it.  Needless to say I’m pretty dehydrated all the time. Only now that I’m in my 30s do I realise how important it is for my health.
But how do I remind myself to drink more? It isn’t rocket science but I’ve come up with a small rule for myself…and I almost always remember it. Almost. Hey I’m a mum, I’ve got a lot on my mind.

Rule: Drink a glass of water:

  • First thing in the morning
  • With each meal
  • Right after dinner

That’s it. I said it wasn’t rocket science.

If I drink the last one too close to bedtime then I’m running to the loo. I need all the sleep I can get so I try to cut myself off by 9pm on drinks in general.

This isn’t a hard and fast rule but I can say I know I should at the least be drinking that much water. If I can get more in great. For someone who would drink the equivalent of one bottle of water a day max this is a big step up.

If you are trying to drink more water in your like try it for a week. I found it was a gentle way to introduce a good habit.

Are you like me? Low on H2O? What are your tricks to get it in?

First off,  HAPPY LABOR DAY! I hope everyone in the States is having a lovely extra day off with family and friends.  I’m sure a few of you are making my No Hassle Burgers and Healthy Potato Salad.  Now here is your dessert!

Gobs of gooey sweet cream cheese frosting surrounds this moist carrot cake filled with lovely comforting spice. You know I love recipes that use up leftovers (those last two carrots in the bottom of your crisper) and are most likely already in your cupboard. Well this recipe takes care of both of those things plus it tastes like a bit of heaven and incidentally goes great with a glass of cava, you’ll see later. Continue reading

Recipe Round-up: Tomatoes

Summer is peaking and tomatoes are bursting off their vines.  I love the smell of a ripe tomato that’s been sitting in the sun.  Just cut me a wedge, sprinkle with some sea salt or dip in a bit of homemade vinaigrette and I am happier than a puppy getting his belly rubbed.  Funny thing is that I hated raw tomatoes until I was nearly sixteen.  All that joy I was missing.  Luckily my taste buds grew up! Below I’ve compiled a list of some of the best tomato recipes out this week.  Some simple, some a bit more complex, all deliciou Continue reading

Zesty Tomato Caponata – Bonus recipe!

This is a bonus recipe from August Guest Blogger, Valerie Catullo, “Growing up, wastefulness was considered the eighth deadly sin. Never throw out something you can use again or in a new and different way. While making the Lemony Tomato Basil Soup I just couldn’t bring myself to throw away the leftover mushy tomato-root veggie mixture. After a few experiments I came up with this zesty caponata that mirrors the flavors in the soup – only now in a spread! Put it on sandwiches, over fish, or our personal favorite – as a sauce over zucchini noodles. Enjoy!” Continue reading
